If you are a woman business owner, being the best is important for several reasons. First, not only to make more sales, but you also want to improve your life and self. There are three kinds of experts: An Expert and a World-Class Expert.
To be recognized as the best in what you do, there are several determining factors. You can tell how others view you by how they treat you. Do other people strive to build relationships with you, or do you have to chase them? Do you receive referrals when you move up the corporate ladder or make that big sale? Are people around you loyal to you? In other words, do they give you rave reviews, glowing testimonials and/or increasingly generous compensation?
If your customers do not consider you to be the Best, you can tell because they won't be willing to value you. They will try to lower the price for your services, or simply do business with someone else. If you are working in corporate America and you are not considered the Best by your employer, you will simply be passed over for promotions and larger pay increases.
You become the Best at what you do by reading, thinking, observing, speaking, and writing. Performing at your Best must become your core mission.
If you are doing your Best, you will eventually become the Best. You may not see your own growth, because you are often too close to it. However, if you take a few moments to look back over the last few years of your business and career, you can begin to see the areas in which you have grown or have gotten better. The question now remains: are you 'Soaring to Be the Best and Beyond"? The hard truth is that the only reason the Best is elusive for many is because hard work is the core.
If while reading this, you are doing the 'dance of rationalization," and making excuses for yourself about how you could have been better if it weren't for...), then stop now. You are only denying yourself the opportunity to move from satisfaction to success.
Don't settle for the status quo and be satisfied when your business' ROI is merely okay, or if you didn't get the promotion, but at least you still have a job. Good business owners and career professionals always have some successes. But the Best ones are those who are always fulfilled and have reached their career objectives and business growth milestones.
Being the Best involves three principles:
1. Know that you are responsible for your results. At the end of the day, when you do the "look in the mirror" review, the only person you can blame or give kudos to is the person staring back at you.
2. Decide what you really want to do. Working in a job you hate can turn into a huge waste of your life. Owning a business that you no longer have a passion for can be draining. If you are unhappy with your career or business, it may mean that you need to up level your career or change your business model to revitalize the passion you once had.
3. Make your life meaningful. Deep inside, most of us know the reason why we were put on this Earth. If you can hone in and focus all your energies on your purpose, you will be able to move mountains.
